Non-Profits
As a non-profit, you face not only the same problems as any other business, but a whole host of additional issues that are unique to non-profits: wrangling volunteers, prioritizing use of funds, program development, volunteer recruitment, fundraising efforts, etc. This is, at best, a high-wire act, but usually closer to a high-wire, juggling act involving elephants!
At TDL we understand the unique situations that face the executives of most non-profits. We have worked extensively with non-profits for the last 10 years and are confident that we can assist with any issue that you may be facing. We also understand the variety of shapes and forms a board may take and have been able to work within the structure of each.
The following is a brief sampling of the services we provide to non-profits.
Leadership Development
This can involve one or more individuals. These individuals may have high potential that needs skill development or could be a particular area of opportunity that needs further development.
This can also include full-on leadership training for those individuals who have never been in a leadership role. Some of those skills might include: leadership skills, motivational skills, presentation, staff management, communication (including difficult or challenging discussions), up/down & lateral management, giving and receiving feedback, internal/external negotiations, donor/recipient-based interactions, balance & prioritizing work and private life. The training is specific to the role and the individual (s).
This program involves primarily one-on-one sessions for each individual, focusing on the specific area of need. Confidential discussions, role play, accountability and debrief are all typical components, however, the solutions arrived at are completely unique to the individual and the situation. We stress solutions that are realistic, replicable and co-authored by the participant.
Team Development
The team could be departmental, leadership, sales, etc. we provide skills training in conflict resolution, lateral/up management, collaboration, cooperation, behavioral styles, goal attainment, prioritization, strategic planning, customer service, visualization and more.
Skills Development
Identifying a skill deficit of an individual and creating a plan that will get them to not only overcome the deficit, but excel at it.
Communications Development
At the heart of most conflicts is a breakdown of communication. The loss of most donations, volunteerism, bequests, productivity and therefore revenue is poor communication. We provide powerful communication skills to reverse the negative trend. These skills include: behavioral style assessments, conflict resolution, collaboration, emotional intelligence, transparency, critical thinking and improved self-awareness.
Managing up/down & laterally
Some call this 360 degree leadership, but whatever you call it this is one’s ability to work cooperatively with those around them to get things done, this critical to a successful leadership role. Communications, influencing skills, tough conversation skills, meeting etiquette and follow-up, people skills, managing office politics, managing donors, recipients, volunteers etc.
Image Design
In today’s crowded non-profit market it is important to stand out in the crowd as a legitimate organization, which is making a difference and using their donated funds wisely. It is crucial that you create and sustain an image that projects your message clearly while at the same time shows you are a healthy established operation. We work with you to help you build the proper image and message to reach the right audience.
Maintenance
This is a maintenance offering where we provide a refresher on the skills that have been taught to your staff. We also revisit the goals and objectives and chart the progress and discuss the challenges that have arisen and help to work through any bumps in the road. We liken this to a tune-up on a car. We want to make sure that your staff is running smoothly after we have left.
